I’ve got manuscripts to edit, submissions to read, two new schools for my four-year-old to get used to, and his birthday party on my plate for the next month, in addition to my day job and the other typical household tasks. I cannot afford to venture too far from my To Do list.
Budgeting time is essential. Well, let me back up. Budgeting time correctly is essential. See, I’m a bit of a procrastinator. Sometimes my brain just doesn’t want to focus on the task at hand. And distracted brain usually means blog hopping.
Currently, I read maybe four or five blogs to start my morning. With several of those bloggers in San Francisco next week, the temptation to visit won’t be as strong since new content won’t be there. If I keep telling myself that, I know I’ll believe it. Then, there’s the celebrity blogs. Honestly, do I really need to know if Jennifer Garner’s pregnant? No. (I think she is, if you compare pictures of her from, say, March until now, which I did…yesterday…)
For my wee little distracted brain, it’s crunch time. At moments like this, I think it would be excellent to have a clone. She could work at my job, and I could do the fun things like edit manscripts, read submissions, shop for a Go Diego Go! birthday cake, read, and perhaps even blog hop.

‘Summer Vacation’ is an oxymoron, at least for moms.
by Kimber An July 24th, 2008 at 8:13 amI don’t know about the blogs you read
but when I go on vacation,
I preload posts
(Blogger has this option now,
FINALLY)
so there are no gaps in posting.
Actually, I always try to be a week ahead
with “filler” posts
then I’ll bump for more timely info.
It takes the pressure off.
Kimber An, I’m not a mom
by Kimber Chin July 24th, 2008 at 10:46 am(wasn’t lucky enough to become one)
but I don’t think I’ve ever had
a summer vacation.
Maybe back before my preteens
(I started seriously working summers
at 10).
I think I would go insane
without a half dozen things to do.
Oh, man, I am horrible about blog-hopping (and e-mail checking, and news site checking). I think, because I am a SAHM with 3 small kids, I really crave adult conversation and mental stimulation, and I can get it, to some extent from blogs. Yeah, sad. Sometimes they are inspiring, but other times, I am just wasting time. I need to limit myself to checking just ONCE a day! Oh, and we have 2 b-days coming up soon…and one of them also involves a “Go Diego Go” cake!
by Leah July 24th, 2008 at 10:54 am“Summer Vacation” is totally an oxymoron. I haven’t had one since I graduated from high school!
Leah, good luck with your birthdays! I found a Go Diego Go! cupcake cake at Wal-mart — very cute! But what I really like are the Swiper cupcakes at Nick Jr (dot) com. Too bad I’d totally destroy them in my attempt to bake!!
by Jana J. Hanson July 24th, 2008 at 11:02 amWhat is a summer vacation? I worked all through high school, so I didn’t really even have one then either.
Good luck with the birthday cake. Publix has some of the best cakes around if you have one where you live.
by Liza July 24th, 2008 at 4:31 pmOk, well, I love blogging. But get an “aggregator” that makes things easier by collecting and holding them, until you have catch-up time, if any
Bloglines is great for that. I run 3 blogs, (one for my books, and 2 for other things) am amid hot-spot promotion for an Oct book, plus Aug has at least 4 close family BDs. Amid several house and professional projects, I’m in the busy-bin, too. But summer livin’ ain’t easy
